Belle Haven Marina is great place to park for a nice bike ride into DC. The marina is located about one mile south of I-95, right off the George Washington Parkway. From here, it an easy ride into town using the Mount Vernon Trail. This is an excellent stop for folks passing by on I-95.

Driving Directions:

From Maryland (Southbound I-95):

  • Cross over the Woodrow Wilson Bridge, and take the very first exit on the Virgina Side. (Mt Vernon Highway / GW Parkway).
  • At the light, hang a right.
  • Marina is one mile ahead on the left.

From Virginia (Northbound I-95):

  • Take the exit for Route 1 south.
  • Follow signs to Fort Hunt Road
  • At the end of the Golf Course, take a left onto Belle Haven Road.
  • Follow Belle Haven Road to the end (GW Parkway).
  • Marina is located to the right, on the far side of the Parkway.
Biking Directions:
  • From the Marina, head north on the Mt Vernon Trail.
  • Just before the reaching I-95, the trail bears right and becomes on-street as it passes through the apartment complex. (Note: Bridge reconstruction will eventaually affect this area - watch for detours).
  • Cross under I-95 at first opertunity, then follow bridge toward river.
  • Rejoin Path at river bank.
  • Trail follows Union Street through Olde Town Alexandria

Issues:

A massive reconstruction of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge is underway. This may eventually affect the Mount Vernon Trail routing. Watch for detours.
