East side parking area

Fletcher's Boathouse is admittedly not the easiest place
to get to by car. In fact, it is almost impossible to reach during
morning rush hour (weekdays 6-10am). However, its close proximity
to downtown, easy bicycle access, and rustic setting make it a great place
to park and ride.

Driving Directions:
Fletcher's Boathouse is not the easiest place to reach
by car. Basically, you can only reach it from northbound Canal Road
or Reservoir Road. Detailed directions:
Parking is available on both the east and west side
of the canal. If the east side is full, you can reach the larger
west side lot using the auto tunnel, which carries you under the canal.
Issues:
- Don't even think about accessing the area via southbound
Canal Road. It is a sharp 180 degree turn and there is no room to maneuver.
If you come from this direction, make a left to head up Reservoir Road and then
find a safe place to make a U-turn.
Biking Directions: The downtown area is easily reached by bicycle:
The unpaved C&O Towpath (l), and paved CCT (r), looking east toward Washington.
|
- Follow the paved Capital
Crescent Trail (CCT) south toward the downtown area. Optionally,
you can also use the unpaved C&O Towpath.
- The CCT will take you to Water Street, in the Georgetown
section of Washington. Water Street becomes K-Street, both of which are located underneath
the Whitehurst Freeway.
- Just before K-Street emerges from under the freeway, take the
right "exit" toward the Rock Creek Parkway (Do not follow K-Street up the Hill).
- From here, follow the Rock Creek Bike Path south along the river.
This will take you to the Lincoln Memorial and the National Mall.
FYI: The nearest Metro Station is Rosslyn.
