The southern section follows the Capital Beltway (I-495) between Wisconsin
Ave. and the Mormon Temple. It then crosses under the beltway, following
Jones Mill Road. After crossing East West Highway, the path goes
around an equestrian center and enters Meadowbrook Park (previously known as "Candy Cane City").
In June 2001, the trail was extended from Meadowbrook Park all the way to the DC Line.

On weekends, Beach Drive is closed to traffic
on the DC side of the border. This provides a really great route
into downtown DC. At other times, another really nice DC access alternative
is to use the Capital Crescent Trail/Georgetown
Branch trail. This trail will eventually cross over Rock Creek about
a half mile north of East West Highway on the old railroad trestle.
In the meantime, this trail follows a detour which runs on the Rock Creek
Trail. |
