The Washington & Old Dominion TrailMile 20 thru 32 |
The town of Herndon is located at mile 20. The Eldon Street crossing here is particularly bad. Past Herndon, there are numerous residential street crossing, so your pace is once again restricted. A 7-Eleven is located at mile 21.5.
The W&OD crosses over Route 28 at mile 24. The next four miles is a dead strait gradual climb through the Ashburn area. Crossings become few and infrequent. There is a McDonalds about a half mile off the trail at mile 27 (where Ashburn Village Blvd crosses). Located right next to the trail at mile 28 is Partlow's General Store. This quaint old store is a popular place to stop for a drink or snack. From this point on, the trail enters mostly rural terrain. There is a huge quarry next to the trail around mile 30. About a mile or so past the quarry, the high voltage power lines end, so the trail becomes more shady.
