North to Gettysburg

Here's a great route I did with Potomac Pedalers. Ride leader Lanny Evans put this together from two rides listed in Chuck & Gail's.This route wanders the lightly traveled backroads between Thurmont, Md and Gettysburg, Pa. Even though this is a fairly hilly area of the country, this trail follows a fairly reasonable terrain. There are a few hills, but nothing really bad. The route also travels through the historic battlefield near Gettysburg.

The route starts in Thurmont, which is about an hour drive north of the Washington Beltway. Take I-270 North to Frederick. I-270 goes strait into Route 15, which will take you farther north to Thurmont. When you take the exit off route 15 at Thurmont, make a right at the bottom of the ramp and then a left at the next light (there are several fast food restaurants here). The ride start in the community park about a half mile up the road on the left.
